Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: The Breakfast was a mix of homemade, traditional Italian items like Crostata, in Apricot or Berry, and some standard items like cereal, toast, yoghurt, juice, coffee etc. I like the "vintage" or retro crockery the meals are served on. Meals are served in a peaceful, large downstairs room and you are able to eat in the garden if you prefer. I liked that espresso coffee was available, with refills. I liked that they went out and bought coconut milk ready for my second day, as they didn't normally have it on hand. I liked the kind and helpful staff members and the friendly and talented cooks, great ladies, all! Those cooks make amazing meals! What I liked about the Hotel itself is that it is a building about 1000 years old, adjoining an old Church that is now a concert hall. Where one sleeps, the corridor is lined with niches where candles are placed. It is both mysterious and romantic. See if you can find the secret passageway to the third/fourth floor with its breathtaking views... The walls are about two feet thick. This means that you don't hear other people when in your room, and, while all the rooms have wifi, I was able to unplug mine, and I got the best sleep I'd had in weeks, because wifi keeps me awake, but the thick Palazzo walls protected me. Also the bed was super comfy. I happened to arrive for a weekend dedicated to the namesake of the old Church, Archangel Michael, and there was a weekend full of special dinners, and concert events. I did not know this when I booked the room. Such a great treat! The flowers I'd requested were perfect. Also, my room 'Thymus' was enormous, superb view, scented of roses, great shower, and decorated with 100-year old art. If I were to be going anywhere near Terni for any reason at all, I'd go a fair way out of my way to stay in this beautifully restored Hotel and Locanda in the hillside town of Cesi. In fact, I'd re-arrange my whole trip to stay here again.

Negative: I always wish that all the food and bathroom items are organic (bio) or all-natural. Most hotels don't do this. It is a pity. I'm not very fit and I did wish I was. These old hillside towns are on Steep, steep slopes and whether it's a ramp or stairs, it is a challenge. Good way to keep in shape, I guess. My room was one storey down from the parking area and one storey above the restaurant area, and there are no lifts. I was able to stop my car in the middle of the street for loading and unloading bags etc. The town's people are extremely patient with that kind of thing.

Summary: Angelic Hillside Delight. Worth Any detour.
